The club had outgrown its legacy Chorus environment.
As organisations become more complex, the finance workload can grow disproportionately. Multiple subsidiaries bring additional reporting and consolidation requirements, while month-end can quickly become a significant drain on the finance team's time if the underlying systems do not make those processes easy.
That was becoming a particular challenge for the club.
The existing environment was no longer providing the level of financial reporting and consolidation capability the organisation needed. Completing month-end required more finance-team effort than it should, tying up valuable resource in producing and consolidating information.
For a busy finance function, that has a knock-on effect. Every additional hour spent getting the numbers together is an hour that cannot be spent analysing them, supporting the wider organisation or dealing with other priorities.
The club needed to move beyond its legacy system and onto a finance platform better suited to the way the organisation now operated.

A professional association football club competing in the English Championship, operating across multiple subsidiaries and requiring a finance platform capable of handling the complexity that comes with a modern professional sporting organisation.
The club had reached the point where its existing Chorus system was no longer keeping pace with its requirements. Finance needed better reporting, easier consolidation across the organisation and, critically, a more efficient way of getting through month-end.
The objective was not simply to replace an ageing finance system. It was to give the finance team a platform that could reduce the administrative burden of producing financial information and provide a stronger foundation for managing a multi-subsidiary organisation.

Acting as the lead consultant, we worked with the club to implement NetSuite across its multi-subsidiary organisation.
The implementation was successfully delivered over a six-month period, with a clear focus on ensuring that the new environment addressed the practical problems the finance team had been experiencing rather than simply recreating the existing Chorus setup in a different system.
One of the key areas of focus was financial reporting and consolidation.
For an organisation operating across several subsidiaries, the ability to bring financial information together efficiently is fundamental. NetSuite's advanced financial reporting and consolidation capabilities gave the club a much stronger platform from which to manage that complexity.
As lead consultant, our role was to help translate the organisation's requirements into a NetSuite environment that worked in practice, keeping the implementation focused on the areas that would make the biggest difference to the finance team.
The result was a successful move away from Chorus and onto a single ERP platform better equipped to support the club's financial operations.
Key Achievements & Results
The most significant improvement was at month-end.
Using NetSuite's financial reporting and consolidation capabilities substantially reduced the amount of time the finance team needed to complete its month-end routine.
Reducing the hours required for month-end freed finance-team capacity that could instead be directed towards other activities. In practical terms, the club was able to get more value from the same finance resource rather than spending unnecessary time working around the limitations of its previous system.
It also improved productivity and reduced the cost associated with the time required to complete the close.At the same time, moving away from the legacy Chorus environment gave the club a platform better suited to managing a multi-subsidiary organisation, with financial reporting and consolidation sitting at the heart of the new solution.
