ERP Business case

Before you build a business case for an ERP transformation…pause. Because most business cases don’t fail in the numbers, they fail in the thinking before the numbers. If you’re about to justify an ERP investment, here’s what you need to be clear on first. What’s actually broken? Not “our system is old” that’s a symptom. Is it slow reporting? Manual processes? Lack of control? Be specific! What is it costing you today? Time, errors, missed opportunities, delayed decisions, compliance risk. If you can’t quantify the pain, you can’t justify the change. What does success look like? Faster month-end? Better visibility? Scalable processes? Define measurable outcomes, not vague aspirations. Who is impacted (and how)? Finance, operations, sales, leadership. ERP is cross-functional, your business case should be too. What happens if you do nothing? This is the most overlooked question. Costs don’t stand still, they compound. Are you ready for change? An ERP won’t fix broken processes or poor data. Be honest about your current level of readiness. A strong ERP business case isn’t about “buying software.” It’s about clearly articulating: The cost of staying where you are...The value of changing...And the confidence you can deliver it. Get that right, and approval becomes a much easier conversation. What’s the hardest part of building an ERP business case in your experience? We can help you build the case for change.
